DallasDogLife Readers,
Recently, Fox4 ran a story about a real estate agent who was notified of two dogs who were left behind at a foreclosed home after their owners moved out. These dogs were abandoned without food or water, and lived outside through the snow storms this winter and most recently, through the dangerous heat wave. They managed to stay alive because neighbors periodically brought them food and water a few times per week. They have since been rescued and are staying with a foster temporarily, but these two lovable dogs need a PERMANENT home, where they can feel safe and secure knowing that they will never be abandoned again. Please read the letter from the realtor - a kind woman named Jancey Crocker - and consider adopting one or both of these dogs. If you can't adopt, please pass this on to anyone who may be looking for a family pet.
Hi Everyone,
As you know, I am a Dallas real estate agent and as proven once again, a part time animal rescuer! I discovered this weekend two dogs that had been left in the backyard of a foreclosed house. After speaking with the next door neighbors I learned that the owner had moved out and left them there over 7 months ago. The neighbors were giving them food and water underneath the fence, sporadically at best so I took them with me and they are now being fostered but need permanent homes.
The dogs, a male and a female I’m calling “Roscoe” and “Ruby” are both young - maybe 1-1.5 yrs. They both appear to be part German Shepherd, with Ruby having some Greyhound in her and Roscoe possibly having a little cattle dog, heeler or Shar-Pei in him. Roscoe is medium size at about 37 lbs. and Ruby is a bit taller and longer and is probably a little bit less than 50. They both have sweet, gentle dispositions, are not big barkers and don’t jump up on people. They are so very gentle when they take treats from your hands! They are also not diggers (or else surely they would have dug out from under the wooden fence they were kept in so long). Roscoe and Ruby seem very close and they really seem to love the companionship of other dogs and would probably prefer living with another dog if they can’t remain together as I know not everyone has room or resources to take two new dogs.
While they will make a great pet, they will need some gentle training to bring out the best in them. It appears they have never worn collars and have never been walked on a leash so that is something that they will have to be exposed to and learn. Also, According to the neighbors they were always kept outside, never played with, and have never been inside a house so it is doubtful they are house trained but they are smart and seem eager to please so that process shouldn’t take too long. Roscoe is not neutered so I doubt that Ruby is spayed either and its suspect whether they were ever given heartworm preventative or ever taken to the vet for a checkup. Other than that they seem very healthy with great teeth and gums.
Both these dogs need to have a home where they will receive love and attention as they’ve really been neglected in their short life – they deserve so much better. There are some small issues as mentioned that they will need to overcome and learn (house training, walking properly on a lead, etc.) but their great temperament, attitude, and disposition are already there and those are things that some dogs can never learn have no matter how well they are brought up. If you or anyone else you know is interested in Ruby or Roscoe or have some questions about them, please give me a call or email.
And while Roscoe and Ruby are just two of the many dogs out there that need homes, there are some great homes out there for sale that currently need dogs! I specialize in the areas of the Downtown loop: Uptown, N. Oak Cliff, East Dallas, Lake Highlands, Lakewood, etc. and I would love to help anyone with your real estate needs. For me, helping people sell or find their perfect home can be nearly as rewarding as finding a forever home for a homeless doggy or kitty!
