When training your dog, make sure to "mark" your dog's desired behavior with a specific word. For instance, if he walks next to you rather than pulling out in front of you, say "Close" and reward with a treat. Don't say "good dog" because your dog doesn't know what he did that was good, or how to repeat it. Also avoid using your dog's name when saying "No!" or "Stay" so that he will come when you call his name.
