City Pet Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serves the Dallas Metroplex by rescuing cats and dogs from local kill shelters before they can be euthanized. This group organizes pet adoptions, public education, and spay/neuter programs. City Pet Rescue also provides ongoing support to adopters to minimize "returns" of pets based on behavior, training, health, or safety issues.
City Pet Rescue (CPR) was started in February 2004 and has been helping Dallas homeless pets ever since. Like most rescues, CPR operates with the help of volunteers and public donations. While they have a dedicated group of volunteers, they can always use more help. If you are interested in helping City Pet Rescue by fostering, transporting animals to and from veterinary appointments, or simply by donating money, please email them at

Of course, the most important need of CPR is adoptive families for the dogs and cats that are waiting for homes. The requirements for being an adopter are:
- Be at least 21 years old (although exceptions are sometimes made)
- Be local
- Own your own home or have landlord approval
- Go through an interview (and ask some questions of them too!)
- Have total household approval (an adoption only works if everyone in the household is on board)
- Pay the adoption fee (ranging from $75-$300)
- Sign the adoption contract
Anyone who has followed DallasDogLife.com on Facebook, Twitter, or even the Blog knows that we are big advocates of the bully breed. These big guys often have difficulty being adopted due to public perception and the fear factor of such strong animals. City Pet Rescue helps Pit Bulls and pittie mixes by posting links on their website to Pit Bull Rescue Central and BadRap.org and, most importantly, by adopting out pit bulls through their organization.
