Show your dog some love
this Valentine's Day:
5 pet-friendly events in DFW

There's no doubt that we humans love our dogs. And for most of the year, dog enthusiasts may find themselves defending our somewhat eccentric behavior. Sure, we dress our dogs in fashion-forwards sweaters. So what if we pamper our pooches with memory foam dog beds? And what's the big deal about only feeding our dogs organic treats? Some may find our behavior to be over-the-top, but on Valentine's Day we all go the extra mile to show our loved ones how much we care. What better time to let Fido or Fluffy know how much we appreciate their unconditional love? And for the single dog-owner, there's no better wingman (or wingstress) than your four-legged friends.

Here are a few pet-friendly Valentine's Day events in the DFW area this week:

Smooch the Pooch Valentine's Party at Foxy Paws
Saturday, February 13 from 1:00-4:00 PM

Foxy Paws Dog Boutique is hosting a "Smooch the Pooch" party at their store, located in the Shops at Willow Bend. Guests can enjoy wine and chocolate while their dogs (of any size) mingle. Photographer Alex Remington, voted 2009's Best New Artist by the Dallas Observer, will be on-site to take photos of your pup. To pre-book a photo appointment, please call 469-366-0005.

Valentine's Beer Tasting at The Ginger Man
Saturday, February 13 beginning at 2:30 PM

The Ginger Man's dog-friendly patio will be open for plenty of mixing and mingling during their "Beer and Chocolate Pairing" event this Saturday. The cost is $35 per person (dogs are free) and reservations are strongly recommended.

Krewe of Barkus Parade at Mitchell Park in Historic Downtown McKinney
Sunday, February 14 beginning at 12:30 PM

The 8th Annual Krewe of Barkus has a Valentine's Day theme this year: "Barkus Does Romance." Vendors will be on hand beginning at 12:30 PM and the parade begins at 2:00 PM. The festival will also feature a costume contest, dog vendor expo and plenty of shopping. Everyone is encouraged to come dressed in their "Valentine's Best!"

Valentine's Day Bash at Unleashed Indoor Dog Park
Sunday, February 14 from 6:00-8:00 PM

Unleashed Indoor Dog Park is known for its themed parties and Breed Nights, and they are once again making this Valentine's Day party as unique as we've come to expect from this mega-park. Not only will this party include beer and wine for the humans and lots of play space for the canines, those who are dog-challenged (meaning, those poor souls who don't have a dog) can get matched with the "paw-fect date," courtesy of Rent-A-Puppy. Admission is $10 for one person and one dog.

Dog Days at Lee Harvey's
Sunday, February 14 - all day

Every Sunday is Dog Dog at Lee Harvey's, and Valentine's Day will be no different. Happy Hour lasts all day long and features $2.50 domestic beers and well drinks. Bring your dog and mingle with the other dog-lovers this Valentine's Day - who knows who you may meet?

Dogs can get sunburned too, so be sure to apply sunscreen when your dog will be out in the sun for extended periods of time. Apply sunscreen to the tips of his ears, bridge of his nose, groin area, inside of the legs and the underbelly. Be sure to use a sunscreen that does NOT contain PABA or Zinc Ozide (which is harmful to dogs if ingested) or a brand made specifically for dogs.
