Have you ever had one of those days when you just felt "blah"? The next time you have a case of the Mondays, or any other time you need a pick-me-up, head straight to www.bluemutt.com and browse the incredible photos on this blog. Dogs playing, dogs sleeping, dogs drinking water, dogs at home, dogs in parks, dogs around Dallas...you're sure to find something to cure the blues. The owner of Blue Mutt Photography, Allison Cameron, has an undeniable talent for photographing dogs at their most expressive moments and capturing their true spirit and personality, and the end results are photos that will bring tears to any dog-lover's eyes.
Allison has loved animals her entire life. She grew up on a cattle ranch in south Texas so animals have always been a part of her life. She studied Architecture in college and moved to Dallas to take a job in that industry, but her love of animals and photography continued to grow until she took the plunge and started her own pet photography business. She named her company after her dog Willie, a Blue Heeler mix who she and her then-boyfriend Brad rescued from East Texas in 2006.
Willie was in bad shape when they brought him home and when she and Brad got married, they wanted to do something for other dogs like Willie. They decided that the wedding favor to their guests would be a donation in their name to the SPCA of Texas, and Allison took a photo of Willie to be included on the place cards. After Willie's photo shoot, Allison was hooked on pet photography and knew that's where her life would lead. Allison officially launched Blue Mutt Photography in December of 2008.
After viewing the photos on Blue Mutt Photography's blog for only a few minutes, you'll recognize the talent that Allison Cameron possesses for taking pictures of her client's beloved pets and ultimately creating works of art. It's especially impressive considering that her subjects have a tendency to run around, drool, lick her camera lens, sneeze, and just be unpredictable in general.
Becoming a Blue Mutt client is easy. Either call or email Allison to discuss the types of pictures you are envisioning. She will work with you to understand your pet's features and personality so that they will be captured in her photos. You'll decide on a location, which is usually the client's home or a park where the dog is comfortable. About 10-14 days after the photo shoot, Allison will provide you with an online gallery to view your proofs. She knows how hard it is to wait, so she'll do her best to provide you with a "sneak peak" before then. After your proofs are ready, you'll meet with Allison for a post-shoot consultation, where she will help you decide which prints you would like, what size, and any other artistic touches you might want to add.
So now for the big question - how much? While it's true that fine art is priceless, most of us are operating on a budget and you'll be happy to know that quality photos such as Allison's will not break the bank. Her photo sessions begin at $185, which includes a 60 - 90 minute photo shoot at the location of your choice, professional editing, a private online gallery of over 65 images for viewing, the post-shoot consultation, and one free 5x7 print. Blue Mutt Photography offers high quality prints from the finest professional photography lab in the industry, photo-books, and gallery wrapped canvases, as well as high resolution images on CD. Prints start at $18, photo-books (high quality coffee table quality books) start at $200 and gallery-wrapped canvases start at $150.
At this point, I am sold on the idea of having my dogs professionally photographed but as you may have noticed from my blog posts, my two Chihuahua mixes are not the most well-trained dogs in the world. Not to worry, says Allison. She can still photograph dogs if they have to be kept on a leash and she can edit the leash out after the shoot. Problem solved!
Be sure to visit the Blue Mutt Photography blog at www.bluemutt.com and view the gorgeous doggies that Allison has photographed over the past several months. Just be advised that you can easily spend an entire morning looking over the photos and reading her clients' comments, just like I did on my first visit.
