Show your dog some love this Valentine's Day:7 pet-friendly events in DFW

There's no doubt that we humans love our dogs. And for most of the year, dog enthusiasts may find themselves defending our somewhat eccentric behavior. Sure, we dress our dogs in fashion-forward sweaters. So what if we pamper our pooches with memory foam dog beds? And what's the big deal about only feeding our dogs organic treats? Some may find our behavior to be over-the-top, but on Valentine's Day we all go the extra mile to show our loved ones how much we care. What better time to let Fido or Fluffy know how much we appreciate their unconditional love? And for the single dog owner, there's no better wingman (or wingstress) than our four-legged friends.

34 Places for Holiday Pet Photos with Santa

It's a time-honored tradition. Every year, thousands of people take their kids to have their pictures taken with Santa. And if the kids happen to be of the furry and four-legged variety, so be it. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, there are numerous places for your fur-kids to have their photos taken with Santa "Paws" and even the Grinch, if that's more your style. Either way, the memories are captured forever.

Here are 34 different opportunities to have your pet's photo taken in his finest holiday attire. Don't forget, make sure that your dogs:
• are always on a leash (or that your cat is in a carrier),
• are up-to-date on their vaccinations,
• have been walked prior to their photo shoot (don't want any accidents on Santa's lap!), and
• most importantly, are comfortable being handled by strangers, especially when said strangers are wearing...

Extreme Mutt Makeover gives 15 dogs a second 'leash' on life

Extreme Mutt Makeover gives 15 dogs a second 'leash' on life

For the third year in a row, the Mustang Heritage Foundation and the North Texas Humane society team up to host the Extreme Mutt Makeover, an offshoot of the Extreme Mustang Makeover. The premise of the Extreme Mustang Makeover is to pair never-before-trained horses with professional trainers for 100 days to prepare them for competition and adoption. In 2009, they added the Extreme Mutt makeover which paired 10 local animal shelter dogs with 10 trainers for six weeks and culminated in a day-long competition. Last year, the number went up to 15 dogs. Again this year, the Extreme Mutt Makeover includes 15 trainers, 16 dogs (15 competitors and 1 alternate), and eight weeks to prepare for a two-day competition at Will Rogers Memorial Complex in Fort Worth on September 16 and 17, 2011.
