Additional info about The Deed’s
Bob Deeds is a K9 Search Specialist with the Texas Task Force One of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Bob and his first K9 partner, Kinsey, worked at Ground Zero following 9/11 as well as seven other federal deployments including Hurricanes Ivan, Katrina and Rita. These situations have reinforced Bob’s philosophy that positive reinforcement, along with understanding of canine behavior is critical in dog training. His belief in foundation, laid with positive training techniques is critical in the dog and the owners’ understanding and development. His goal is to achieve a level of training that maximizes the potential of each dog and owner. He and his new partner, Gracie participated in search and rescue efforts late last year during Hurricanes Dolly, Gustav, Eduoard, and Ike.

Karen Deeds is a Field Representative for Paws With A Cause, a non-profit organization that trains service, hearing and seizure response dogs and has been involved in the assistance dog industry since 1995. Following an incident with her show dog in 1990 resulting in a major behavioral problem, Karen learned the importance of understanding canine behavior and how to manage and modify it. While working with a local Humane Society in 1992, Karen quickly realized the need to educate dog owners on canine behavior. She found that with education, training and behavior modification more dogs successfully adapted to a family environment. Karen specializes in behavior problems and assists rescue groups in evaluating their dogs’ behavior problems, working with their fosters and working with the families that adopt the dogs.

Dogs can get sunburned too, so be sure to apply sunscreen when your dog will be out in the sun for extended periods of time. Apply sunscreen to the tips of his ears, bridge of his nose, groin area, inside of the legs and the underbelly. Be sure to use a sunscreen that does NOT contain PABA or Zinc Ozide (which is harmful to dogs if ingested) or a brand made specifically for dogs.
